To attract and serve students in the creative fields, UST will establish a higher profile for the arts on campus and provide exceptional venues to accommodate them. A planned Performing and Fine Arts Center will give students the opportunity to refine their talents, while affording UST a greater, more impactful presence in the community. The center will provide 70,000-square-feet of facilities that will span a city block and is planned for the corner of Sul Ross and Graustark Streets. The center will serve the music, drama and fine arts departments, including sufficient practice and instrument space, dressing and wardrobe rooms, shop space, backstage area, rehearsal space and adequate facilities for students to produce creative works. Currently, the largest facility on campus holds less than 300. The new center will include a 6000-seat theater, 150-seat Black Box theater, art gallery lobby, music and drama rehearsal halls, scene shop, costume and wardrobe shop, dressing rooms, faculty spaces and banquet support spaces. The Performing Arts and Conference Center will fill a critical need at the University of St. Thomas, while also serving as a resource for community organizations that seek performance space for their events.
