August Campaign Email

Colbert-Riley Dear Friends, It’s mid-August, and the University of St. Thomas is abuzz with activity as we prepare to usher in the fall 2014 semester. As I walk the campus, the unrelenting Texas heat is overshadowed by the beauty of the landscape made lush and green by recent summer rains. I hope this semester’s students find our campus as wonderful and welcoming as I do. I try, too, to envision the changes that are coming to UST as a result of Faith in Our Future: The Campaign for the University of St. Thomas. This campaign, the most ambitious in UST’s history, will provide for our students a new state-of-the-art Center for Science and Health Professions to meet the ever-growing demand for STEM education. Eventually, it will also provide a new Performing Arts and Conference Center, as well as increased funding for scholarships and programs. The Center for Science and Health Professions remains the campaign’s highest and most urgent priority. We are at an extremely critical juncture, as the need for this facility grows each semester. I’m excited to report that we have raised more than $23 million for this vital project. Our goal is to raise more than $47 million by January 1, 2015. If we are successful, our board of directors will, at their January meeting, consider a vote to break ground in 2015 with the goal of opening the building in January 2017. Since our last update, we have been blessed to receive a very generous challenge grant for the Center for Science and Health Professions from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation in Tulsa. Once we’ve raised the balance of the project, Mabee will contribute the final $1 million. This foundation has supported UST for years, and we’re extremely grateful for their confidence in our mission. I’m hopeful many of our supporters will step forward to help us meet this challenge soon. As Faith in Our Future progresses, I’m excited to share with you, a new site that provides an indepth, one-stop look at this multifaceted campaign. I hope you find the site informative and easy to navigate. We value your input, so please take a moment to review it and send your feedback to We will refresh the content frequently, especially the News & Events section, so please bookmark the site and check back often. The start of a new school year is so exciting. I pray that this one brings many blessings for UST and for the students and teachers in your life. As always, thank you for your support and involvement. With gratitude, Cynthia Colbert Riley, MLA ’95 Vice President for Institutional Advancement
